LIGHT OF THE WORLD NIGHTLIGHT

Reproduced here is the instruction that William Holman Hunt gave to William Hacking, his ironmonger neighbour in Cheyne Walk, London.  For exhaustive information look here: http://ffirstimpressions.com/light-of-the-world-history.html

For our LIGHT OF THE WORLD LAMP, we have followed this original drawing. Although, in the painting, we can only see three of the seven apertures, the others as well as the arched openings cast their own unique reflections upon Christ’s robes and face.  Interestingly, when it came to the actual painting,  Hunt transposed the arrangement of the light apertures.  So in the painting, the flint-shaped opening was moved to the left and the single star to the right of three central stars of David. The flint-shaped opening related to flint’s obvious light-giving properties. In the centre, and next in chronological order came the Jews of the Old Testament, represented by three stars of David (which may also symbolise the three Patriarchs). The single star (to the right) often associated as a symbol of Divine guidance or favour, may relate to the star that led the wise men to Bethlehem to see the new-born King.

INSTRUCTIONS

There is also a little fingernail clip that opens the battery hatch.  A battery should last 10,000 hours.  If the light fails and that “day comes and the shadows flee away” we supply replacement batteries type CR2032 (£1 inc P&P)
